the mark of those who cannot be saved
[You remember dying. Maybe the memory is clear and bright and your body still aches from the cause. Maybe it was fast enough that you didn't feel it and don't remember what you went through. But no matter how you went out, that's no excuse for truancy! Which is to say: you are still in the school.
For those executed, you will wake up in your beds. The dormitories look exactly as they did when you first arrived, without any of the changes or personal effects you and your dormmates might have made. The only real difference is that the little cot in Ambassador isn't there.
For those who were victims, you will wake where your body was discovered. All of your injuries are gone, and you feel fine. It's almost like you're still alive - but you remember what happened to you. It couldn't have just been a dream, could it?
The school looks much as you remember it, save perhaps for a few key differences. For one, there's no groundhog murals anywhere. Where things were green on the other side, like banners or paint, you'll find that here they're blood red.
The doors, for the moment, are still locked. Looks like even death couldn't free you.]
Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5
(( ooc: Welcome to deadland, everyone! It mostly resembles the school here, and new floors will be revealed after new people die. For example, the second area will unlock after the week 3 dead arrive, and so on. Also, all dead characters will wake up at their actual canonpoint, with all lost memories restored. Have fun being dead! ))

Because the second floor is open. It wasn't before. And every time something new appeared, or was unlocked, it meant-
So-she is running, looking around, shouting out as she looks.]
Hello? Hello!? Who else is here, now!?
no subject
Elisabeth? Madame Elisabeth?!
no subject
[She hears him, and her heart tightens.]
Maestro-
[-And there he is. He chest hurts at the sight.]
Maestro...no...

Salieri's eyes sting, and he blinks them rapidly--and immediately dips into a bow to cover it, swallowing, before he straightens]
Madame. It's...[he clears his throat to keep his voice from wavering]...It's good to see you again.
no subject
She rushes forward, and makes to pull him into a hug.]
Why!?
[Because even so, even though everyone is family to her now, he's the closest thing to home, to her time, she's had here.
Even though he shouldn't be here.]
no subject
After that moment, and he's tried valiantly to compose himself--]
I missed you very much. [his voice is rough, quiet]
no subject
[She's crying a little now.]
But by God, what has happened? Who did this? What possible reason could there be for someone to kill you-!?
no subject
So instead, he pulls her back into his arms, so she can cry on his shoulder]
Madame, please, save your tears, I--[he swallows]--it was my choice.

My choice.
Her head pops up at this, eyes wide, and a gleam of fear creeping into her eyes.]
Maestro-what do you mean-
[He didn't. He...he wouldn't have. Couldn't have. Because even if they somehow escaped the Wizard, if what he was implying was-
Rudolf, where are you-
was true, then-
She shakes her head, eyes widening even more.]
You didn't...did you...
cw: reference to assisted suicide
...the Wizard threatened to kill them all. So I...[he pauses a moment, steeling himself]...I made a decision. A plan; asked for assistance. I...don't know whether it worked or not.

At that moment, it's not Antonio she sees. Not the school.
No-she is back at the Hofburg, with her daughter, and it is one of the rare times she is back in Vienna. It's morning. Cold, but still good weather. Her daughter is thinking of going ice-skating. Sissi is very much tempted to agree-but only after lessons are over.
The door to her room bursts open.
"Ida! Goodness, what is it? You know Valerie and I have our Greek right now!"
"Madame, I'm so sorry, but Freiherr Nopcsa is here to see you-"
"Oh-tell him it can wait! At least until we have finished this part, yes?"
"M-madame, I..."
She very slowly dislodges her hug, still looking at him. It's a little like a dream.
"...Freiherr Nopcsa brings very grave news. Please...you must receive him now."
"All right, all right. What is it? What has happened?"
"....Madame...your son."
She doesn't know if she's the first to learn of Salieri's death. But-she was the first back then. Protocol demanded it. The Empress had to tell the Emperor, as the only one in the land with equal standing. As a result, she had to be told first.
"My son? Is he not at Mayerling?"
"...He...there was...there was an incident."
She falls to the ground, to her knees, still staring at Salieri, eyes wide and blank.
"You son, and...your child, he's...
I'm sorry."
Those last two words are spoken out loud. Salieri hears them, even if he doesn't know why she is saying them.]

Madame--
[ "I'm sorry."
And he freezes at that, for a moment, before shaking his head, slightly]
No, there isn't...
Madame Elisabeth, are you alright? [she looks to be in a bad state, and it is far easier to focus on her than to think of anything else, now]
no subject
Back at the school. Back with Antonio Salieri, who just admitted he...
He...
She stares at him, hurt and disbelieving. She shakes her head.]
Maestro...you...
[Shouldn't have. A fool.
Everyone dead. A motive. She doesn't know if she's speaking gibberish, and she knows she's in shock, still. But she manages to speak a little.]
...he must be stopped.
no subject
...I'm sorry. [he...doesn't know what else to say]
no subject
You made a grave mistake, maestro, you-
[Damned yourself? In a way, maybe. But.]
The Wizard has already shown he doesn't care for any of us! He is willing to lie to us about the truth of our situation-what reason has he given since, that you would trust his promises!?
