now let's skip the tears and start on the whole-
[You remember dying. Maybe the memory is clear and bright and your body still aches from the cause. Maybe it was fast enough that you didn't feel it and don't remember what you went through. But no matter how you went out you're still trapped here.
When you open your eyes it might take you a minute to recognize your surroundings. For the executed, it's your dressing room. For the victims, you startle awake in the place your body was discovered. But no matter where you are nothing is where you remember it. It's like everything has been picked up and moved to the other side of the room. The entire room has been perfectly mirrored from what it used to be and, upon leaving, it seems the rest of the opera house is just the same. If you remember one room being in the east wing, it's now in the west. If it was in the west, it's now in the east.
Welcome back to the Opera House, friends. Even in death you're still in the woods.]
WEEK 1 | WEEK 2 | WEEK 3 | WEEK 4 | WEEK 5
[ooc: Welcome to deadland, darlings! It's a perfectly mirrored version of the Opera House and each week, as new people die after new floors have been revealed, the stairwell doors will unlock and allow you to reach them. For example, week 3 victims will unlock floor 2 and so on and so forth. Also, all dead characters will wake up at their actual canon point.
Have fun because we have some fun things planned for you.]

WEEK 1

Eventually she gets her breathing under control and gets out of bed. She almost bangs into the dresser because of course everything is in the wrong space. Part of her believes that if she just opens the door, Valhalla will be on the other side, or Hel, or whatever-
But of course not.
She didn't know where she would wake up after she died, but the last place she thought would be the Opera House. Angry tears prick the corners of her eyes. This place has even robbed her of rest, her eternity with those loved ones who have gone before.
A loud, gutteral, furious scream rips through her, echoing down the empty hallway.]

A call out to the Phantom - Dropbox letter
Phantom,
I do not know if this will reach you. I assume as we are trapped in this Opera House, even in death, there is a chance. I must ask: Why are we still here in this place? Why were we denied rest?

So, nearly a week to the day in, this is what they've been reduced to: sitting cross-legged on the floor of the ballroom, surrounded by various bottles of nail polish they'd scrounged from different dressing rooms, with Jonny holding Sigyn's hand as he painstakingly paints her nails a shiny gunmetal grey.]

TRIAL TIME
Sigyn will recognize the hallway leading to the court room but when she and Jonny open them they lead instead to one of the elegant and abandoned boxes above the Orchestra pit. There are two red velvet seats there, just waiting to be sat on so observe the goings on below.
You might as well, the rest of the boxes are so dark it's near impossible to see if there's anything happening with those.]

Richard, you wake up still laid out in front of the fountain...and you are not alone.]

The small family of survivors, still mostly strangers. But friends who had fought every moment for what life they had left. Mister Baker, Cinderella, Jack...
She pokes her head out of the dressing room cautiously.]

-you know, BEING DEAD THING
[Beetlejuice snaps his fingers and, very suddenly, both he and Evan have black and white pom-poms in their hands! Evan looks about as deer-in-headlights as you’d expect.]
Hi! I’ll be your guide
I’ll be your G-U-I-D-E to the other side
Don’t go to the Netherworld—
YEAH, I said Netherworld!
I’m the B-to-the-double-E-J-F-Q
And fuck, I still can’t spell
[All this has been accompanied by BJ doing a rather elaborate and vaguely sexy dance with his pom-poms, while Evan still just looks mortified.]
But the good news is you and your friends
Died in the Opera House
That gives you clout
That means that all of you will stick around
[He excitedly points to each of them in turn with his pom-poms and then gives a sweeping gesture at the lobby. Evan just wants to die all over again.]
It’s the perfect time to die
‘Cause this guy happened to be stuck like a fly
To give you control of your souls
Through the whole "being dead" thing
The whole "being dead" thing!
Whew! First time I've gotten to finish a song here without that dick murdering me.

TRIAL TIME
The doors lead to one of the elegant and abandoned boxes above the Orchestra pit. There are two red velvet seats there, just waiting to be sat on so observe the goings on below. For each pair who enters the doors, a new narrow hallway opens up for that the next pair will be able to take the next box.
BJ and Evan can be seen in another box, BJ chomping down on popcorn and Evan looking ready to leave at any moment.]

Spinel stirs in the garden.
Riley and Angus rise up in their dressing rooms.]

He deserved it. He had to die before he could hurt anyone else-
Get up.
Ser Proletius couldn't break from the spell. The infection is irreversible.

Riley finds herself screaming in her parents' kitchen, and she thinks, maybe- just maybe--
"Oh! Um, I think, um... I think it's best we don't confuse things."
"HELP! SOMEONE HELP! HELP!"
"Nobody remembers fourth-grade Riley--"
"Mattie is an innocent girl-" "So are you, Riley!"
Ignore. Ignore. Ignore. Ignore. Ignore. Ignore. Every single text, every single call, every little smile--
"I ordered the pizza! She was here because of me!!"
"Can I have the key? You can't lock us down here." "No, Cai, you can't. Because we~ are not leaving this basement~ until we have something! To show! For the pep rally!!"
"--AND WHEN GIRLS DON'T HAVE YOUR BACK YOU'VE GOT TO C-C-C-C-CUT 'EM!"
"You know what, Kate? I think you've had enough chances--"
"Look, I don't know what made you do this, but I won't help you anymore!"
For just once, Riley did it. She got to be a flyer. She thought, this is it. At least she'll force whoever's hand, kill the Phantom. For them. For someone else, the only thing she seems to be good at--
And then, she's falling. Daddy! Dad! The voice cruelly hisses in her head, catch me, because no one can, no one will, and Riley's too stunned to close her eyes.
Then, she's in her ruined, destroyed dressing room, and...
"You really think I couldn’t replace every one of you with another diversity scholarship in two seconds?"
No. No, no. No no no, it's worse. It's worse than she-
Riley slowly sinks to the ground, arms wrapped around herself. She curls inward. What a monster she is. How could any of them give her a kind look? A smile, a hug. After everything-- After--
Riley's body hitches and hiccups. She trembles. ]
I'll be nothing, I'll have nothing,
I am nothing, I'll have nothing,
I am nothing, I have nothing,
I am nothing, I have nothing,
Without--
[ And, she breaks down into sobs. She won't leave this room. Riley knows, she's in hell. It'll burn eventually. For now, she's just going to weep, until it does. ]

Her first clear thought is that she doesn’t want to be alone, and she especially doesn’t want to be alone in the dance studio. So she just runs out the door, not even sure where she’s running to. She doesn’t know if she’ll even find anyone, but she’s got to try.
She doesn’t even realize her memories are back.]

except AngusSigyn explores the new areas of the Opera House. The actual punching bag in the fitness room is a blessing. The mannequin in the costume room was only going to last so much longer. It is weird that the dead can sweat? Probably, but she isn't going to think too hard about it.
One "evening" a delicious smell wafts from the kitchen. Any who enter will find Sigyn tending to a large pot of soup.]

Without the Hammer, without the Phantom dead, he must travel to the one place that holds all answers to life's mysteries: the library.
Of course, there have never been any books on magic, but there are pages on biology, mechanics, science, all that stuff. And despite Angus never being a scientist or a prince who studied the lore of his world (Looking back, it should have been obvious that the Hammer of Glory could only be powered by a sun. Why did he need Ralathor to explain it to him?) but he can be different this time.
And so, he stays most of his time at the center table, surrounded by tomes that he struggles to comprehend.
The Knife of Evil made him cruel, but it certainly did not make him smarter.]

Riley is a Wallflower, after all.
Most days, she's drawn to the wall, where she either sits by it or climbs up on it. Sometimes, when the world starts to drown in static and hissing whispers, it helps get her head on straight. Most times, it's just a momentary distraction, a rush of endorphins from the physical activity.
Sometimes, she can be found in the chapel. She takes to lighting candles and watching them burn down. There's something almost satisfying in it. Almost.
And, if all else fails, she can be found in her room. Trying to...put it right, a little, to sweep at least some of the letter scraps up, or get rid of the ripped and slashed bed sheets, maybe set the vanity up right and remove some of the broken glass from the smaller mirror. It's a slow process. ]

backdated to post-trial
But sadly watching her life drift away...
Gems don't die in the same way organic beings do. Being stabbed in the chest, or taking a fatal blow to the body? They poof; reverting back into their Gem until they can reform. But the Gem itself... that's the weak point, shattering that destroys a Gem. No coming back from that.
Spinel didn't think very often about Gems being shattered. The thought had hardly crossed her mind in Pink's garden... and just barely after it, as she flew to Earth, faced down Stev-
Steven. Steven Universe, the son of Pink Diamond.
That's when Spinel wakes up, on the ground in the garden, looking a bit different than she did before her poofing.
She's... fine? No, that's not the right word. She's awake again, at least. And she sits up, looking around once, then looking down at her hands, turning them around.]
....Huh.
[She's going to need a moment to process everything - No, wait. She's struck by a thought that makes her whip around.]
Riley?
[But she's alone.]

LETS CRASH A MEETING
Meeting in the dining room this evening to discuss what we have discovered here and perhaps contact our still living friends.
She will also attempt to deliver the message to everyone in person. Most in the form of a brief, friendly conversations.
Time is even harder to judge here than it was when they were alive, but the smell of fresh baked cookies serves as a draw to the dining room at the appropriate time. Sigyn is sitting at the table, notes and a few letters out for people to read. When everyone - or at least most everyone- have gathered, Sigyn will speak]
I was thinking perhaps if we all attempted to contact those still living in the opera house at once we may be able to do better than just a few words or gestures. If we can coordinate with them better, perhaps we can all find a way out of this mess. [And on to a proper afterlife of peace, where they aren't stuck in this tacky theater with a weird, smelly demon]

HEY FUCKERS TALK ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS
But. What's worse-
Something very bad is happening. That much she can tell. And Riley is pretty much done with standing by and letting the world catch on fire around her. Mephisto starts to leave. And Riley--
Well, she can do one thing. After locking the door she lets out a huff, calls, into the halls: ] Hey! We're haunting our stupid friends again!! Don't unlock the door on their side!

[Jeremy wakes up and immediately panics not because he's in a bed but because it's beautifully, blessedly silent in his head and that is not the dulcet tones of Keanu Reeves. That's like Siri had a garbage sister. Also he doesn't know what the FUCK the thing floating in front of his face is. For the record, it's blue.]
What the fuck! I. You. We.
Please stop panicking. It's unbecoming.
